BT Paralympic World Cup

Last week Medic 1 was really excited to provide first aid cover for the BT Paralympic World Cup. It was a real thrill to watch some of the world’s best athletes compete in a huge range of events. A group of visiting school children even had the opportunity to try Boccia - not dissimilar from bowls where athletes compete to place their mark nearest to the target ball, even knocking other competitor’s balls out of the way.
With some truly fierce competition on the wheelchair basketball court, our staff were never at a loss for some exciting competition to watch. What was great about the event was the opportunity to meet world class athletes who have become inspirational examples of overcoming an impairment and striving to achieve excellence in their field.
Medic 1 has worked with people with disabilities since its inception - both as patients receiving treatment and also as our staff. Medic 1 has always recognised the expertise, experience and dedication people with disabilities contribute both to their families and communities, and to wider society. That is why it was such a privilege to work in an environment where an individual’s impairment(s) were simply another individual characteristic, part of them but not what defines them. There can be no doubt that the competitors are anything other than world class athletes, and Medic 1 looks forward to working with them, and other amateur or professional athletes at other events.
