Wakestock 2011
Wakestock 2011
As usual Wakestock held its own and proved itself not only the best (and only!) international wakeboarding and music festival, but also a landmark event for the Welsh musical scene. With the sets covered by S4C (the Welsh language television channel, for those not based in Wales) it wasn't only the record number of attendees who got to enjoy exceptional performances by headliners Biffy Clyro, Kelis and The Wombats.
The weather, after a shaky start, turned out to be the only 3 days of summer! Or so it feels like in the middle of a wet and dreary August. So whilst many attendees had packed their wellies - and sensibly so for a festival held during Welsh summer time! - Sun block was high on the list to ensure festival goers didn't need treatment for more serious heat-related injuries later in the festival.
Medic 1 provided a large team who, were thrilled to work at Wakestock - not to mention the chance to catch some of the acts whilst on their breaks! Whilst there were the usual bumps associated with any group of people at such a large event the low casualty count is testament to the hard work not only of the organisers but the other organisations, such as the security team, Welsh Ambulance staff, A & E and the welfare team who put in a lot of hard work to ensure the event was as safe as it was successful.
