Barclays Scottish Open 2011 - Castle Stuart
Barclays Scottish Open 2011
The event was held this year at its new home, Castle Stuart Golf Club in Inverness.
Medic 1 were very excited to be working at the club as we had attended emergency planning meetings, as usual, so we knew the course was both stunning and exciting.
We are pleased to say that the week more than lived up to our expectations.
The golf was exceptional. Visitor numbers were high. Everyone, including those of us who were working at the event, had a great time.
The weather... well that too was exceptional! At times we were providing sunscreen to people who had forgotten it, later in the week we were making sure that people were safe and undercover during torrential rain and storms!
The drama continued, rain stopped play on the Friday. During the night exceptional rain fall not only waterlogged the course but caused landslides!
However everyone was determined to do everything they could to allow the event to continue. JCB’S were brought in to clear and make safe. The green keepers sprang into action, achieving the impossible. Health & safety officers, council officials, the police, security, tour officials, Castle Stuart staff, marshals, scorers, Medic 1 and many others all worked tirelessly to make sure that everything was safe and ready to resume the event. It was a magnificent effort by all.
The event was a great success and the exceptional weather just illustrated the strength of the team work and dedication by all.
And the winner was... Luke Donald, winning his third title of 2011. Medic 1 is very much looking forward to returning to Castle Stuart for future events as it is a truly stunning location.
