Medifest: A week of festivals
Last week Medic 1 were thrilled to have supported two of North Wales' most prestigious and high profile festivals.
Abersoch on the Lleyn Peninsula, played host to Wakestock - Europe's largest wakeboard music festival. With record attendance of over 15,000 people is was a thrill to work the event. Despite the initially poor weather the diehard music fans were rewarded for their persistence by a glowing sun that really shone the spotlight on the beauty of this outstanding piece of coastline.
The acts, including The Ting Tings, Feeder and N-Dubz, were crowd pleasers with the dancing and partying carrying on each night into the early hours of the morning. An electric atmosphere surged through the audience with each beat of the bass, which could even be felt by our staff in the medical centre!
It was a privilege to work closely with local police, ambulance and A&E staff, as well as the dedicated stewards and security staff, to ensure that Wakestock 2010 was the highlight of the musical calendar in Wales that it is known to be.
Meanwhile in Conwy an entirely different musical festival brought an alternatingly mellow and jovial air to this stretch of coastline. The International Bluegrass Music and Dance Festival celebrated an amazing 22nd anniversary and yet again provided the a showcase of the very best bluegrass music in the world. With an incredible 15,000 people, many of whom had travelled from across the world to watch or perform, it was fantastic seeing such a wide ranch of ages, nationalities and musical styles together in one place.
Whilst our staff at Wakestock were feeling the bass throughout the day, our staff working at Bluegrass were, by the end of the festival, hearing banjos in their sleep! Even though the two events are hugely different, both in musical style and the range of people they attract, they both show off world class music in an internationally renowned setting of outstanding natural beauty. Medic 1 staff would like to thank the organisers and staff of both festivals and, along with the audiences of both festivals, congratulate them on a job well done.
