Who would benefit from the course?

There are no prerequisites for the FPOSi course. The course is open to all who have an interest in extending their first aid skills. However it is particularly beneficial to First Responders, security staff and those working in hazardous environments, such as oil rigs, air/sea cabin crews, who may all find themselves caring for patients in an emergency situation for prolonged times, as environmental factors may delay front-line emergency response times.

Format & duration

You will be provided with an FPOS manual prior to the course and a member of the training team will contact you to offer advice and support. During the course all the necessary learning materials will be provided.

At Medic 1 we feel that students should be given the chance to learn and practice their new skills and be confident and competent in using equipment. The theoretical learning is enhanced during scenarios, to ensure that the theory can be put into practice.

Pearson/Edexcel suggests that the minimum student contact time is thirty hours, and up to two hours for each student assessment. Some training providers will offer the course over four days, including the assessment time; here at Medic 1 we feel that would disadvantage students. Therefore our course is run over five days, at no additional cost.

Assessment

As well as being continually assessed during the course by your Medic 1 tutor, the course will be assessed by a multiple choice question paper and a practical session. We encourage student participation to ensure the students get the most out the course.

The FPOSi course is approved by Edexcel and managed by the IHCD. On successful completion of the course you will receive an IHCD accredited certificate. Certification is valid for three years. It is recommended that you undertake continued personal development (CPD) during this time to ensure that your skills are maintained. On expiry on the certificate you will be required to undertake the course again to regain your certificate.

Housekeeping

During the course Medic 1 will provide light refreshments. If you are traveling away from home to attend our courses we can book accommodation on your behalf. This would incur additional costs and can be arranged within a range of budgets. Download our e-flyer to find out more.
