Transport for Care Homes & Healthcare Providers
A dependable transport partner when your residents and patients need to travel
Book NowArranging transport for a resident or patient is rarely as simple as booking a vehicle. They may use a wheelchair, need a stretcher or help transferring, require clinical observation, or need more time and support than ordinary transport provides.
Medic 1 provides planned ambulance, medical and supported transport for care homes, nursing homes, hospices, hospitals, clinics and other healthcare organisations — from routine appointments to complex transfers, planned around the individual.
One Provider for Different Transport Needs
Rather than finding a new provider every time a resident’s needs change, Medic 1 supports the full range — with vehicle, equipment and staffing matched to each journey.
- Seated supported transport
- Wheelchair transport
- Stretcher transport
- Hospital admissions
- Discharge and return journeys
- Outpatient appointments
- Inter-facility transfers
- Long-distance transport
- Palliative transfers
- Clinically supported journeys
- Dementia and learning disability transport
- Mental health transport where appropriate
Care Home and Nursing Home Transport
We transport residents between care settings, hospitals, clinics and other destinations — hospital and outpatient appointments, admissions, discharge back to the home, transfers between homes or to nursing care, specialist, dental and ophthalmology appointments, family visits and important occasions.
Many residents need more than door-to-door transport, so we plan around mobility, communication, cognitive and clinical needs.
Hospital Discharge Back to Care
Getting a resident back from hospital can be difficult when standard discharge transport is unavailable, delayed or unsuitable. We provide planned discharge to care homes, nursing homes, residential services, supported living, hospices and rehabilitation facilities.
Where needed, we agree access, mobility, transfer arrangements and crew level before accepting the journey.
Wheelchair and Stretcher Transport
For residents or patients who can’t use ordinary seating safely or comfortably.
Before travel we consider:
- Mobility
- Transfer requirements
- Type of wheelchair
- Ability to weight bear
- Property access
- Steps or restricted access
- Additional equipment
- Staff or relatives travelling
- Relevant medical conditions
This helps avoid problems at collection and makes sure the right vehicle is sent.
Clinically Supported Journeys
Where a resident or patient needs observation, has complex medical needs, or a standard crew wouldn’t be enough, we provide clinically trained staff — Emergency Care Assistants, Emergency Medical Technicians, Paramedics or other clinicians. All clinically supported journeys are assessed individually.
Dementia, Learning Disability & Additional Needs
Residents living with dementia can find unfamiliar journeys confusing or distressing. Our crews allow time, communicate clearly and avoid unnecessary escalation.
We also transport people with learning disabilities or additional communication and support needs, and familiar carers or support workers can travel where appropriate.
Care teams can help by sharing:
- Communication preferences
- Known triggers
- Behavioural concerns
- Routines and sensory needs
- Mobility
- Level of orientation
- Whether a familiar staff member should travel
- Previous transport difficulties
Palliative and End-of-Life Transfers
We support planned journeys between hospital, hospice, care home and home for people receiving palliative or end-of-life care — planned with particular attention to dignity, comfort and the person’s wishes, with clinical support considered as part of the assessment.
Inter-Facility Transfers
Planned transfers between healthcare and care settings.
- Hospital to care home
- Care home to hospital
- Care home to care home
- Residential to nursing care
- Hospital to rehabilitation
- Hospice transfers
- Private hospital transfers
- Specialist clinic transfers
For more complex patients, we work with the referring team to understand clinical and operational needs first.
Regular and Recurring Transport
Some organisations need transport regularly — residents attending repeat appointments, treatment programmes or clinics. We can set up recurring arrangements so you don’t start from scratch each time.
Long-Distance Transfers
We’re not limited to local journeys. We carry out planned UK-wide transfers — moving a resident closer to family, to specialist facilities or another care home, long-distance discharge, specialist treatment, palliative relocation and cross-border transfers within the UK — planned around comfort, clinical needs and support.
Working With Your Team
Good transport depends on good information. Sharing details before the journey means the right vehicle, equipment and staff are allocated from the outset.
Useful information includes:
- Mobility and transfer needs
- Clinical conditions
- Current observations where relevant
- Communication needs
- Cognitive impairment
- Behavioural risks
- Medication or oxygen
- Infection risks
- Property access
- Escort requirements
- Destination details
Account and Ongoing Service Arrangements
Organisations using Medic 1 regularly can set up an account, so managers, administrators and clinical teams can book future journeys without re-establishing details each time.
We can also discuss:
- Regular care home transport
- Hospital discharge support
- Planned specialist transfers
- Out-of-area journeys
- Higher-acuity transport
- Bespoke arrangements
Whether it’s a routine clinic appointment or a clinically supported long-distance transfer, the person travelling stays at the centre of every journey.
