Hospital & Appointment Transport

Making healthcare journeys easier

Book Now

Getting to or from healthcare can sometimes be harder than the appointment itself. A car or taxi isn’t always suitable when somebody has reduced mobility, uses a wheelchair, needs a stretcher or requires medical support on the way.

Medic 1 provides private hospital and appointment transport across North Wales and throughout the UK — from accessible, supported transport to fully equipped ambulances with a clinical crew.

Whether you’re arranging transport for yourself, a relative, a resident or a patient, we’ll make the journey straightforward, comfortable and properly supported.

Hospital Discharge Transport

Being told you’re ready to leave hospital doesn’t always mean getting home is easy. You may be unable to travel comfortably in a car, need a wheelchair or stretcher, or have medical needs that make ordinary transport unsuitable.

We provide planned private discharge transport from hospitals across North Wales and further afield.

We can take you from hospital to:

  • Your own home
  • A family member’s home
  • A care or nursing home
  • A hospice
  • A rehabilitation facility
  • Respite care
  • Another hospital or healthcare facility

Where needed, we’ll liaise with the ward or healthcare team about the arrangements, then allocate the right vehicle, equipment and crew.

Discharge from hospitals further away

Sometimes an admission happens far from home — you became unwell while visiting family, or were transferred to a specialist hospital. Once you’re ready to leave, getting back to North Wales can be another challenge.

We carry out long-distance discharge and hospital-to-home journeys throughout the UK, including wheelchair, stretcher and clinically supported transport.

Hospital & Private Appointments

We provide transport to NHS and private healthcare appointments throughout North Wales and beyond.

  • Outpatient appointments
  • Diagnostic appointments and scans
  • Specialist consultations
  • Dental and oral surgery
  • Ophthalmology
  • Physiotherapy and rehabilitation
  • Private hospital appointments
  • Pre-operative assessments
  • Follow-up appointments
  • Other planned healthcare visits

For passengers who need more support, we can help between the home and vehicle and onward at the destination. Needing a wheelchair or stretcher doesn’t have to stop somebody attending an appointment outside their local area.

Return Journeys & Waiting

Many appointments need transport both ways. Your return journey can be arranged at the same time as your outward one.

Depending on the circumstances, we may be able to wait during the appointment or collect you afterwards — especially helpful where switching between providers would be difficult, or the passenger has extra mobility, communication or support needs.

Appointments don’t always run to time, so we’ll talk through the arrangements when you book.

Regular Treatment Journeys

Some people need transport regularly rather than for a single appointment. We can arrange recurring transport for ongoing treatment, rehabilitation or specialist services.

  • Oncology treatment
  • Rehabilitation programmes
  • Physiotherapy
  • Specialist clinics
  • Regular hospital reviews
  • Other ongoing appointments

Where possible, we aim for familiar faces and consistency for regular passengers — and it saves you, your family or care provider from organising every journey separately.

Hospital Admissions

We don’t only bring people home. We also provide planned transport into hospital for an admission, procedure or treatment — from private homes, care and nursing homes, hospices and other care settings.

This is particularly useful where somebody can’t travel safely by car or taxi, needs extra mobility help, or requires a wheelchair, stretcher or clinical support.

Planned transport only

Admission transport is arranged in advance. It is not an alternative to the emergency ambulance service — if somebody needs an emergency response, call 999.

Wheelchair & Accessible Hospital Transport

Using a wheelchair shouldn’t make a healthcare journey difficult. We consider the passenger’s mobility and wheelchair needs when arranging the journey so the right vehicle and method of transport is provided.

Family members, carers or support workers can often travel too. For people with sensory, communication or cognitive needs, we can adapt how the journey is approached.

Stretcher Ambulance Transport

Some passengers can’t travel safely or comfortably sitting up — because of their condition, reduced mobility, recovery after treatment or being unable to tolerate seated transport.

We provide stretcher ambulance transport for appointments, admissions, discharges and transfers. We assess access in advance — steps, narrow entrances and so on — so suitable arrangements are in place.

Clinically Supported Journeys

Not every hospital journey needs clinical support — but some do. Where a passenger needs observation or extra clinical capability, we provide an appropriate ambulance crew following assessment.

This may be an Emergency Care Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic or other suitable clinician, chosen alongside mobility, equipment, journey length and destination. It’s considerably more than private-hire transport can offer.

Inter-Hospital & Healthcare Transfers

We provide planned transfers between hospitals and other healthcare facilities, local or long-distance, seated, by wheelchair, stretcher or with clinical support.

  • NHS hospitals
  • Private hospitals
  • Specialist treatment centres
  • Rehabilitation facilities
  • Hospices
  • Other healthcare settings

For organisational referrals, we liaise with the healthcare teams to plan each transfer properly.

For Individuals, Families & Healthcare Providers

You don’t need an NHS referral to use Medic 1. Individuals and families can contact us directly. We also accept enquiries from care and nursing homes, hospices, hospitals, clinics and other organisations arranging transport for a patient or resident.

Every journey is considered individually, so the transport reflects the person’s actual mobility, support and clinical needs.

Local knowledge, UK-wide transport

Based in North Wales, we provide private patient transport across the region, to and from the major hospitals, community hospitals, private clinics and specialist facilities. When treatment is further afield, the same team can take you all the way — no need to arrange separate stages.
