Journeys That Matter

Because some journeys are about much more than getting somewhere

Book Now

A wedding. A funeral. A family gathering. A holiday. Going home. Visiting somewhere that holds a lifetime of memories.

Illness, disability, complex medical needs or reduced mobility can make people assume these moments are no longer possible. Sometimes, they are.

Our Journeys That Matter service provides individually planned accessible and medical transport for important personal journeys — wheelchair, stretcher or an equipped ambulance with a clinical crew, including a Paramedic where needed. We start with the journey the person wants to make, then work out whether we can make it possible safely, comfortably and with dignity.

Weddings & Family Occasions

Significant mobility or medical needs don’t have to mean missing a wedding, birthday, anniversary, christening or other big event. It might be a grandparent who uses a wheelchair, a nursing home resident who needs a stretcher, or someone who needs an ambulance and clinical support to be there.

Arrangements can include:

  • Collection from home, hospital, hospice or care setting
  • Wheelchair-accessible transport
  • Stretcher ambulance transport
  • Clinically supported transport
  • A Paramedic ambulance where appropriate
  • Assistance on arrival
  • Transport between parts of the occasion
  • Return transport afterwards

We provide the support needed without making the transport the focus of the day. The important thing is the person being there.

Funeral & Memorial Attendance

Being able to say goodbye matters. We provide discreet, compassionate transport — accessible, wheelchair, stretcher or medically supported — for people who might otherwise be unable to attend.

We understand funeral timings are important and the day may be emotional, so we plan sensitively around the person, the service and the locations. This can include collection, transport to the service, help on arrival and the journey home.

Visiting Family & Friends

Sometimes the important journey is an ordinary one. After serious illness, mobility loss or a move into care, visiting family can become much harder — especially if a wheelchair, stretcher, oxygen or clinical support is needed.

We can help people visit children or grandchildren, return to the family home for an afternoon, attend a gathering or spend time somewhere that matters. For longer visits or complex needs, we’ll talk through the arrangements beforehand.

Holidays & Time Away

Needing extra help doesn’t mean giving up holidays. Often the journey itself is the biggest barrier.

We can travel between home or a care setting and:

  • Hotels
  • Holiday cottages
  • Caravan and holiday parks
  • Respite facilities
  • Family accommodation
  • Airports
  • Ferry terminals
  • Other suitable destinations

Wheelchair, stretcher and clinically supported journeys are available, with comfort, positioning and stops planned for longer trips, plus return transport.

Palliative & End-of-Life Transport

At the end of life, where somebody is matters. For some, it’s leaving hospital to return home; for others, a hospice, a familiar care home or somewhere closer to family.

  • Hospital to home
  • Hospital to hospice
  • Hospital to care or nursing home
  • Hospice to home
  • Transfers closer to family
  • Other care settings

Where needed, we use a stretcher ambulance with a clinical crew, including a Paramedic, and work with the person’s healthcare team. Throughout, our focus is comfort, dignity and helping them reach the place they want to be.

Important Personal Journeys

Not every meaningful journey fits a category. Someone near the end of life may have somewhere they want to go. Someone who’s spent months in hospital may simply want to see their home again. We’re happy to consider unusual requests.

For example:

  • Visiting a family home
  • Returning to a favourite place
  • The coast or countryside
  • A religious or community occasion
  • Visiting a loved one
  • An important celebration
  • A final visit somewhere significant

Whether a journey is possible depends on the person’s condition, mobility, destination and practicalities. We can’t promise every request — but we’re happy to start with a simple question: where would you like to go?

When Someone Has Complex Medical Needs

The people who most want to make these journeys are often those for whom travelling is most complicated. We can help where needs fall within our clinical and operational capabilities — with stretcher transport, oxygen, monitoring, extra equipment, an ECA, EMT or Paramedic crew, and planning with their healthcare team.

We assess needs before agreeing to the journey, and review arrangements if the person’s condition changes.

Planning Around the Occasion

A journey to a wedding is different from a hospital transfer — simply arriving isn’t always enough.

We may need to understand:

  • Where to collect from
  • Accessibility at the venue
  • How long the person will stay
  • Whether they’ll move between locations
  • Where the vehicle can safely park
  • Whether a wheelchair or stretcher is needed at the venue
  • Medical needs while away from usual care
  • Who else will be present
  • Return arrangements

Planning ahead makes the day easier for everyone. For important occasions, please contact us as early as possible.

Supporting Families as Well as Passengers

Arranging a journey for someone seriously ill can feel daunting. You may know exactly where you want them to be, but not whether it’s medically possible or what kind of ambulance is needed. You don’t need to work that out first — tell us about the person and what you’re hoping for.

Sometimes a simple accessible vehicle is enough; sometimes a stretcher or Paramedic-supported journey is right. Occasionally, the journey can’t safely go ahead. We will always put the safety and wellbeing of the person travelling ahead of simply accepting a booking.

Frequently asked questions

Can you take someone on a stretcher to a wedding or funeral?

Often, yes. We plan wheelchair, stretcher or clinically supported transport around the occasion, including help on arrival and return transport.

Can you help someone receiving end-of-life care get home?

Yes. We provide planned palliative transfers to home, hospice, care homes or closer to family, with a clinical crew including a Paramedic where needed.

How early should we book?

As early as possible, especially for important occasions, so there’s time to understand the person’s needs and the venue properly.

What if we don’t know whether the journey is possible?

Tell us about the person and what you’re hoping to achieve. We’ll assess what’s needed and be honest if a journey can’t safely go ahead.
