Why families in Chester book a private ambulance
The Countess of Chester Hospital is the hospital most people in Chester and Cheshire West use. Getting there, or getting home afterwards, is not always something a car or a taxi can do. The person may be unable to sit, may use a wheelchair, or may need a crew who can help at the door and on the ward.
Medic 1 is a private service. You pay for the booking. We are not the free NHS patient transport service. If that is what you need, the hospital can explain who to ask. If you want a crew for this journey, price it online or call.
Across the border, and back again
Chester sits on the edge of Wales. We are often asked to bring someone from the Countess back to a home in Flintshire, Wrexham or further into North Wales, or the other way: a person from Cheshire West who has been treated at Wrexham Maelor or Ysbyty Glan Clwyd and now needs a supported journey home. Ellesmere Port, Neston, Helsby, Frodsham and the villages of Cheshire West come up in the same way.
Enter both places on the price form and check the county. Chester in Cheshire is not a town of the same name elsewhere. Coverage is North Wales and throughout the UK.

What the booking needs to include
Tell us the ward or the home address, the time the person can leave, and how they move. Stairs, a wheelchair, a stretcher, oxygen and whether someone is travelling with them all change the plan. You do not need to name an ambulance type.
Our ambulances are white, with yellow and green Battenburg markings, and the crews wear green uniforms, so the ward can see who has arrived. Waiting on a discharge, and journeys into a care home or hospice, are explained on the pages linked below.
Private ambulance prices
Chester is a planned trip from our base in Llangefni, not a crew waiting in Cheshire. The price is for the vehicle and crew time, which is why the form asks for the real pickup and drop-off before it shows a figure.
Private ambulance transport is £115 per hour, with a 3-hour minimum, so journeys start from £345.
The first hour of waiting is included; after that, waiting is charged at £65/hr.
